| My name is Michelle. You can call me Michelle, Mal, or Malachi. I am 24 yrs old and live in northern Minnesota. I have bipolar, PTSD, chemical abuse, borderline-personality disorder, I self-injure and a few other diagnosis. Currently, I am no longer doing any self-injurious activites and my Bipolar seems to be pretty much under control. Some of my hobbies include surfing the net, chatting, nintendo, body piercings, spending time with friends, animals, driving, music, anything that is weird to normal people and anything that is fun to do. I'm always open to trying new things. Love to travel around and meet people, though I am very shy and dont talk to anyone around where I live. I was diagnosed with depression in 1994 after the death of my brother. I got better for a while, but then I started getting sick again. I was going to the doctors and therapist all the time, but it seemed to not help. Finally, in 1996, I was diagnosed with bipolar and things started to make sense then, the mood swings, dangerous activies, spending, etc were all falling into place. I was in and out of the hospitals, suicidal, making suicide attempts, started self injuring. It got to the point where I wasnt even allowed in some of the hospitals because of my behavior. |
| I was sent to the state
hospital and it hit me that I am not that bad where I need to
be there. I got myself put in a group home, went into chemical
dependency treatment (outpatient) and started get my life back
together. In November I met the person I am going to spend the
rest of my life with and Angela has made me very happy since.
Some goals I have decided on are just basic ones, nothing fancy.
I just need to keep taking my meds, talk when something is bothering
me and just be the person I want to be, not who they want me
to be. As for the newly diagnosed people, the road is tough at
first. The med changes, getting the right dosages, the right therapist and pdoc, and getting the right suppport system built around you. It all takes time to do. Changes dont take place overnight. It took me a few years and I am still working on it. It does get better. |
