The study by Carnegie Mellon University which was funded by the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, is no longer accepting participants.

A big thank you to all of you who participated in that study!

This is a Bipolar Only chatroom.

If you're the friend or loved one of a bipolar, there are other places where you can chat.

One that we know of is: bpso.org

If you're the parent or caregiver of a child, you can chat at bpkids.org

We're sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.

This goes into effect Sept 9th 2004 at 8am Central time.

Must be at least 18 to enter

If you're under 18 please visit one of these chats:

http://www.bpkids.org

http://www.bpchildren.com/ for two

http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/1068/

Please note: we are a Bipolar Disorder chatroom only.

Registration is voluntary. However a good reason to register is so you can prevent other people from taking your nickname or impersonating you. Directions on registering are below. You will be asked to enter your email address. Your email is not for any other purpose other than to send you an email to let you know when the server is down, or when the server is back up so you'll know when you can use the chatroom again. Your email is not sold and it will not be given to anyone! You must provide your server email, as hotmail, yahoo, etc cannot be used.

Registration Process:

To register your nickname, enter the chatroom with a nick that you want to use, and if no one else is using that nick, you'll be able to continue the registration process.

Type this in to the chat text space:

/msg nickserv register  put email address here  put pass word here

For example: if you pick the password "foobar" and your email address is beaniebabies@hotmail.com,  your registration process would be typed in like this:

/msg nickserv register beaniebabies@hotmail.com foobar

Identify Process:

Also, each time you join the chatroom, you need to identify who you are. You'll do this so the chatroom system knows that you are who you say you are and you aren't trying to steal someone's name, or trying to impersonate them. You'll do this by providing your password like this:

/msg nickserv identify putpasswordhere

So if your password was "foobar" it would look like this:

/msg nickserv identify foobar

One common mistake people make when trying to register or identify is they spell nickserv wrong and they put an e on the end of it. Make sure you're not doing that. It does not have an E on the end.

If you have a problem with someone and want to ignore them:

To use the ignore feature (you won't be able to see what the person you're ignoring is saying) type this into the text space:

/ignore and put the name here of the person you want to ignore

Example: /ignore Robbie

We have seven chatrooms:

The main bipolar chat room which is used for help, comfort and information:
#ASL

We use the following two rooms for one-on-one chats or for crisis ONLY:
(please be courteous and ask a Peer Counselor if these rooms are already in use before you enter them)

#HAVEN
#OASIS

#TREEHOUSE : A general chatroom you can hang out in when "bipolar" is the last thing you're in the mood to talk about!
If you're in a crisis, need help or need information, please do not go to this room- go to #ASL instead! : )

Specialized chatrooms:

#BUDDIES : Clean your home with us! Times are Pacific Time. Click here to see what time zone it is for you.
(You don't have to stick to this schedule, you are always welcome to use the #Buddies room anytime you want to)

Buddies Schedule:

 Mon-Fri:

 8am

 Sat-Sun:

Are you new to chatting on the internet?

If this is your first visit it is advised to go to #ASL first.

To enter the chat, type in your nickname and click the "Connect" button.

If you want to go to the other rooms after you connect to #ASL, click on the "Disconnect" button, then click on the "Config" button, then choose the room you want to go to, then click on the "Connect Now!" button. Wah-lah!

Jpilot jIRC applet only supports Netscape 4.0, Internet Explorer 4.0 or above.
Please grant the permission when the pop up window appears from Netscape and IE. ( You will need IE4.5 on Mac platform).

When you are ready to leave and quit the channel, do this: /quit (a slash and the word quit) or click the "Disconnect" button.  If you join the room and then get disconnected, chances are the system has disconnected you because your nickname is already in use on the server.  If this happens, choose a different nickname.

If you see nothing but a grey screen and there is nowhere to enter your name, then that means that either you have your java turned off, or we're having server problems and you'll have to try to connect again shortly.  The server does NOT support WebTV. Sorry!! : (

Sometimes there is lag and when you join the room it seems like no one is talking to you.  Please be patient, as sometimes it takes up to a minute for your text to be actually read by the others.  Even though you can see your text right away, it might not be read by the other chatters for a minute or so...This does happen quite a bit when the internet is busy (especially in the summer and on weekends when kids are out of school).  Please be don't feel that you're being ignored! Hang in there!  : )
