I'm 50 years old and married for 24 years. I was diagnosed bipolar about 2 years ago and misdiagnosed depressive about 12 years ago. Looking back I can see the signs of bp ever since I can remember. My report cards in school were up and down, my moods swung, I always felt angry and that everyone else had a problem but not me. Same in college. In workforce I changed jobs about every 18 months or so because I could feel "it" coming on. My mood swings are longer in duration, I can be hypomanic for 6 - 12 mos and depressed for up to 2 years. My last crash came very quickly (while I was on meds) and very deep I couldn't work for 6 months. Finally I got stable and started back to work part time and now I work full time. I am a network engineer (lots of pressure, which is not always good). I've been doing computer work for 15 years. I have an undergraduate degree in Mass Communications and a graduate degree in Information Systems. My wife is my best friend and has literally been my life saver. I don't know how she has been able to put up with me but she has. We have 2 horses and 3 cockatiels (birds). Our horses are our babies and we spend much of our free time with them. We ride strictly for pleasure, no showing. We have a Thoroughbred named Sweet and an Appaloosa named Bosco. |
