Special Notice:
We moved our chatroom. If you use MIRC, the new settings are mentioned below. If you use javachat, just use it as you normally do. This took effect this Friday September 3rd 2005.
This is a Bipolar Only chat room.
If you're not bipolar, please do not enter our chatroom. Thank you!
Please read our rules:
A Silver Lining's chatrooms are intended to offer support for people affected by Bipolar Disorder. We believe in the freedom of speech and we think that the best way to create an open forum for those seeking help is to permit them to speak freely. Unfortunately, when such freedoms are abused, it may interfere with others' freedoms. Therefore we will not permit users to disrupt the channels or to abuse others. Some examples of abusive behavior and a list of rules:# Must be at least 18 to enter.
# Using gratuitous profanity.
(in other words, general cussing is allowed, just make sure it's not excessive!)
# Expressing bigotry.
# Ridiculing participants of A Silver Lining's chatrooms.
# Flooding the channel (this means don't paste a whole page of information into the channel unless you've asked & gotten permission to do so from the other chatroom visitors.)
# Being disrespectful to anyone.
# Constantly using ALL CAPS.
# Do not sit idle more than 30 minutes (unless you're in the room called #buddies.) Lurking isn't nice, sorry!
# Disruption- no matter the cause, it will be cause for being kicked or even banned from the channel.
# Pick one nick to use and stick with it.
# These are public forums- Your conversation is subject to being logged and shared within the Peer Counselor group. We also reserve the right to discuss a chatroom visitor with anyone we deem necessary.
# Mental Health Professionals/Students/Researchers have to make prior arrangements with the owners of A Silver Lining before entering the chatrooms. If you are wanting to talk with/interview bipolars, then arrangements will be made to meet you in a special room with willing participants. You will not be allowed in the main chatrooms. Thank you for your understanding.
# Adult conversation belongs in the room #Treehouse. (It's NOT a pick up chatroom! But you can have ADULT conversations in there.)
# Partying belongs in the room #Treehouse, not the main chat where people come for help.
# Non-bipolars are not allowed in our chatrooms.
# Do not come into the chatroom when you're under the influence of pot/booze/drugs.Please refer to this page often to see if any there are any changes to the rules.
You must also agree not to hold the owners of the chatrooms or the PC's responsible for anything that might occur as a result of being in any of our chatrooms. Remember, we are not medical professionals, we are a peer-to-peer support group only.If you agree to these conditions then you may enter the chatroom with our blessings.
Click on the word JAVACHAT below to enter the chatroom using the Javachat. (When you see a Security thing pop up, don't be alarmed. This is your computers way of protecting you from unwanted tasks. Just click on "Grant" which in this case means "I grant permission to use this Javachat") Once you've been to this page here and have chatted in the chatroom and want to go back to the chatroom again later without having to come to this page again, just simply bookmark the Javachat page on your computer.

MIRC vs Javachat:
You can enter the chatrooms with either mIRC or with our Javachat. Mirc and Java are computer programs that you can use to go into a chatroom with. If you want to enter with mIRC, you have to download software onto your computer. With the Javachat you don't have to download anything. Between mIRC and Javachat, mIRC is much better. The interface with mIRC is nicer and has a bigger screen. It also allows you to exchange files (anything that is on your computer...like pictures, text files, etc.) hear wav files, log conversations, and more. You can download mirc at: www.mirc.com (If you are a mac user you can get IRCle at ww.ircle.com. IRCle is just like mIRC but only for Mac users)
With the Javachat you're limited to a smaller screen, and are only able to do "/me" commands and to hear 3 sounds and that's it. But it is easy for those who are new to chatrooms and computers. For complete detailed instructions on how to set your mIRC up once you download it, please click here.
